About KYP
The Kelly Yang Project is the premier, award-winning after school writing program in Hong Kong for students ages 2-17. Launched at Hong Kong International School in 2005, we are dedicated to inspiring students to become creative thinkers, exceptional writers, and confident speakers. We offer creative thinking and critical reasoning classes designed to improve student writing in two ways - creative writing and expository writing.
Our annual Spellbulary contest is a celebration of spelling and vocabulary for students of all ages. We are also proud to publish both paper and online versions our student newspaper, The Idea Burger, our newspaper devoted entirely to student writing, written by students, for students, on topics students enjoy. Our students are also the proud authors of Hong Kong's Highest Points: Kids' Reviews of the Best of Hong Kong, available at bookstores in Hong Kong. In October 2010, KYP was voted No. 2 Best Small Education Project in the World by The Education Project in Bahrain.
KYP students routinely score above the 90th percentile on the SAT test at early ages, win national and international writing and speech awards, and matriculate to top universities around the world. 70% of KYP students attend international schools in Hong Kong, including HKIS, CIS, CDNIS, FIS, GSIS, and SIS. Another 20% attend ESF schools, such as Island School, South Island, West Island, or ISF Academy. And finally, 10% attend top local schools such as DBS, DGS, St. Paul's, St. Stephen's, Marymount, and others. The impressive caliber of our student body makes KYP a one-of-a-kind learning center.
